Sensity Systems Announces New Cellular Core Node Products that Expand Cities’ Smart Lighting Control Options

New products leverage AT&T network to extend smart lighting control to residential and suburban areas

SAN DIEGO – April 25, 2016 – Sensity Systems Inc., provider of a leading Internet of Things (IoT) platform for Smart Cities, today announced an extension to its NetSense Core Node product, the Core Node EX-C, that enables outdoor smart lighting and sensor data to use cellular data networks. Extending Sensity’s existing portfolio that uses Wi-Fi networking, the new cellular Core Node option makes it easier to implement smart LED lighting controls in residential, suburban and other areas of a city or metropolitan area that lack sufficient Wi-Fi coverage.

“The addition of the cellular Core Node to our product portfolio means that cities can now make their suburbs as smart as their central business districts,” said Sean Harrington, COO of Sensity. “By filling a gap in cities’ smart lighting capabilities, Sensity is once again helping to lead the Smart City revolution.”

Sensity worked with AT&T to enable the new cell core node technology, which takes advantage of the fact that cellular coverage is nearly ubiquitous across populated regions. The Core Node EX-C provides full smart outdoor LED lighting control that includes scheduling, dimming, ambient light detection, and energy monitoring and management. Optional auxiliary port enables motion-based lighting control, environmental temperature sensing, and auxiliary power and sensor expansion capabilities.

“This extension of the Sensity product line will enable cities to achieve even greater energy efficiencies through real-time adaptive lighting algorithms,” said David Tucker, vice president of Product Management at Sensity. “There’s no reason why residential areas shouldn’t have the benefit of the most advanced lighting control products available, while also laying the foundation to run Smart City applications of the future.”

Many Sensity Smart City applications—addressing urban concerns such as parking management, public safety in large gatherings of people and traffic congestion—exploit the high throughput and low latency of Wi-Fi networks, which are prevalent around urban districts. While suburban and residential areas don’t face the same Smart City application needs as urban centers, they still can take advantage of smart outdoor lighting control, for which cellular networks are well suited.

Demonstration at LIGHTFAIR – April 26-28 in San Diego – Sensity Booth #537

Throughout its LIGHTFAIR booth, Sensity will showcase joint partner solutions that leverage its NetSense platform as a foundational element. Application-specific demonstrations include Smart+Connected Communities, Smart Parking and Traffic Management, Public Safety and Security and more for malls, cities and parking areas.
